From the return of Heritage Festival to Hawrelak Park and four days of live music at Gallagher Park to Caribbean culture, anime, theatre, Pride and a major new country music festival in ICE District, the city’s calendar is packed throughout the month.
Here are some of the biggest festivals happening in central Edmonton and the surrounding area this August.
Edmonton Heritage Festival: August 1 to 3
The Edmonton Heritage Festival returns to Hawrelak Park during the August long weekend.
The three-day multicultural celebration brings communities from around the world together through food, music, dance, arts, crafts and cultural exhibits.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Visitors can purchase food from participating cultural pavilions while enjoying performances and activities throughout the park.

Cariwest: August 7 to 9
Cariwest returns to the heart of Downtown Edmonton from August 7 to 9.
The three-day Caribbean arts festival fills Sir Winston Churchill Square and the surrounding downtown streets with music, colourful costumes, dancing, food and cultural programming.
One of the weekend’s signature events is the Cariwest Parade on Saturday, August 8. The nearly two-kilometre parade route begins near 108 Street and 99 Avenue, travels along Jasper Avenue and ends at Churchill Square.
The Caribbean Village will also operate at Churchill Square throughout the weekend, offering live entertainment, food and opportunities to experience Caribbean culture in the centre of the city.
Animethon: August 7 to 9
Animethon takes place at the Edmonton Convention Centre from August 7 to 9.
Canada’s longest-running anime convention brings together fans of anime, manga, cosplay, gaming, music and Japanese popular culture.
The weekend includes fan panels, performances, guests, gaming, artist and vendor areas, an anime music festival and a charity auction supporting the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation through Edmonton Extra Life.
Because Animethon and Cariwest are taking place during the same weekend, visitors should expect increased activity around Jasper Avenue, Churchill Square and the Edmonton Convention Centre.
Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival: August 13 to 23
The Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival celebrates its 45th year from August 13 to 23.

The Edmonton Pride Festival runs from August 21 to 23, with programming taking place around Sir Winston Churchill Square and other central Edmonton locations.
The weekend celebrates Edmonton’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community through music, art, performances, markets, community programming and public celebrations.
PrideFest 2026 takes place at Fan Park in ICE District on Saturday, August 22 from 3:00 to 10:00 p.m.
The free, all-ages event will include a performance by headliner Rêve, a showcase of local queer musicians, drag performers and artists, a Rainbow Market, community organizations and food trucks.
